Historic Ansel Adams Home in San Francisco

Front Salon View-GG-Bridge
SOLD

Our client purchased the historic Ansel Adams home in the West Clay Park area of San Francisco, adjacent to the Sea Cliff neighborhood and the Lobos Creek in the Presidio. Ansel Adam’s father built a home on this sand hill in 1903. Ansel and Virginia Adams added a second building on an adjacent lot in 1929. The two houses were later connected.  They lived, worked, and entertained here till 1957.  The house has views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

History

Original 1903 house at 129 24th Ave, San Francisco

Until the late 1920’s, when his focus shifted to photography, Adams had intended to become a professional concert pianist. He was self-taught in reading music and playing the piano. The original home retains his 1913 Steinway grand piano, which Madeline purchased as a gift to the new owner.

In 1937 Adams moved to Yosemite Valley and lived there until 1962 when he moved to Carmel, California, where he spent the rest of his life.

Thanks to the listing agents, Stacey Cain and Joseph Lucier for photos of the house and their cooperation.
