Hiking on Ring Mountain and Tiburon Ridge Preserves
Ring Mountain Preserve and the adjacent Tiburon Ridge Preserve cover the spectacular ridgetop from Highway 101 in Corte Madera to Trestle Glen Road in Tiburon. The preserves provide 360 degree views of the bay area, including San Francisco, the East Bay, Tiburon, the eastern towns in Marin, and the bay. The dramatic rock outcrops display prehistoric petroglyphs.
This is one of Madeline’s favorite hikes from her home on the Corte Madera side of the ridge. Here are photos of a recent winter walk on Ring Mountain:

How to reach reach Ring Mountain
You can reach Ring Mountain trails from the Corte Madera or Tiburon. Starting from the west end of the preserves, here are the Corte Madera access points:
- Koch Road – At the top of Koch Rd, adjacent to Highway 101, park in the turn-around. The trail to the left is a steep 10-minute climb to the ridge.
- Madera del Presidio Dr/Meadow Ridge Dr – On Meador Ridge Dr, just past the junction with Madera del Presidio wood steps to the right go up to the ridge. Part of this trail is steep.
- Endeavor Drive – At the end of this street, a fairly steep path leads to the ridge.
- Phyllis Ellman Trail – The trail begins on Paradise Dr. between Westward Dr and Upland Way. This is winding uphill walk in through an open hillside.
- Robin Drive – At the top of the street, the trail is fairly steep at the start.
- Taylor Road – At the top of street, the trail provides easy access to the ridge.
Here are the Tiburon access points, west to east:
- Creekside Way – The Ring Mt Fire Road starts at the end of this street and climbs to the ridge. You’ll have to park on Central Ave.
- Via Los Altos – This is an easy access at the end of the street.
- Reed Ranch Rd. – The Reed Ranch Fire Rd. begins at the end of the road and joins the Ring Mountain Fire Rd.
- Trestle Glen Blvd. – Shepard Way, off Trestle Glen Blvd, meets the Shepard Way Fire Trail. This climbs to the Ring Mountain Fire Rd. We have not verified this route. It is up to you to explore.
